Deaf Youth Theatre are taking their production of The Birthday of the Infanta to the International Youth Arts Festival in Kingston Upon Thames, London in July.
Adapted from Oscar Wilde’s bittersweet short story and performed in Deaf Youth Theatre’s own unique storytelling style, The Birthday of the Infanta captures a transitional moment of choice when the heart could melt or freeze.
It was the birthday of the Infanta. She was coming of age, falling in love and recognising her own vulnerability and prejudices. What happens when you judge and are judged? This is a beautifully moving exploration of the power of communication, class and the prejudice of difference.
Drawing on the passion and rhythms of Spain, combined with live music and shadow puppetry, Solar Bear's DYT takes you on a visual and musical journey through the constraints of social hierarchies, a moment of awakening and the courage needed to change.
