Sunset Song

Film version of one of Scotland's most popular novels. It follows the life of Chris Guthrie growing up and becoming a woman on the east coast of Scotland in Aberdeenshire.

Starring Agyness Deyn, Peter Mullan and a host of well known Scots actors.

Language - English

A BSL interpreted discussion will be led by Dr Laura Bissell. BSL Interpreter: Amy Cheskin

Titled, “Nothing endures but the land”: Landscape and Identity in Sunset Song, this post film discussion will ask important questions about the contemporary political landscape of Scotland and asks us to wonder; Can Sunset Song help us explore ideas of “nation” or “identity”?

Is Scotland poised upon the “sunset of an age”.

Dr Laura Bissell is a Lecturer in Contemporary Performance Practice within the School of Drama at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Laura is a visiting lecturer on the MRes in Creative Practices programme at Glasgow School of Art and has taught on the Transart Institute MFA in Berlin.
