BA Degree in Performance in BSL & English

BA Degree in Performance in BSL & English

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland are breaking new ground by offering the first full time performance degree course delivered in BSL & English . Designed around the learning and teaching needs of the deaf performer, this programme is unique in the UK.

The content has been developed in association with Solar Bear Theatre Company with input from a range of theatre, educational and deaf professionals. Our shared aim is to widen the range of trained performers in the UK by providing this opportunity for talented performers from within the deaf community.

The working language of the programme will be British Sign Language and spoken English.

There will be fully qualified BSL interpreters in class, on stage and in rehearsal. The students develop skills in acting, movement, dance, signing on stage, improvisation and puppetry as well as explore highly visual and physical performance styles. Further they will work on specific projects with students of other degrees. The small class sizes ensure they will have the opportunity to work closely with the teaching staff and visiting professionals.

Students will benefit from the Conservatoire’s many collaborative and professional partnerships including Solar Bear, National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Opera and the BBC. They will be taught the the skills needed to prepare students for a career in film, television, theatre and more.
