Catch Up

12/07/2017

We have had a wonderful world wind of activity at Solar Bear over the last couple of months. We are especially delighted to announce that we are in full development for our new production: Love and Information. Written by Caryl Churchill the play constructed of 50 contained scenes offers an exhilarating theatrical kaleidoscope about how we live in a world bombarded by information. How do we make sense of things? What’s true and what’s fake? What about privacy, our relationships? This Royal Conservatoire of Scotland production, in association with Solar Bear, is accessible to both hearing and D/deaf audiences.

In other news we have just finished the recent terms of Deaf Theatre Skills (DTS) and Deaf Youth Theatre (DYT). Highlights included working with comedian Ray Bradshaw and musicians Core Records who delivered workshops at DYT and the final sharing for DTS that allowed the group to demonstrate to their direct peers and select audience their creativity and talent. Many of our DYT members will now be attending Summer Project at the Tron working on Cabaret skills.

We are also pleased to announce that Solar Bear will be working with Birds of Paradise, Sign Arts and the National Theatre of Scotland on Sign Language Performance Skills, a unique set of workshops offering BSL interpreters training in a range of areas with a view to creating world class theatre performance interpreters. The project will run for two years.

In amongst all these large projects we are still dedicated to outreach development, providing opportunities to young people. We were fortunate to attend Deaf Action’s Deaf Pride event at Elderbank Primary School and we begun to develop relationships with other schools including St Rochs.
