Solar Bear & RCS celebrate success with nominations and awards

The BA Performance course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has only been running for 1 year and already the education world is sitting up and taking notice.

With the success of Deaf Youth Theatre it became clear to Gerry Ramage, Solar Bear's Artistic Director that there was both the need and talent to offer young people form the D/deaf community the opportunity to study theatre.

The Conservatoire was the natural partner and working closely with Maggie Kinlock, Deputy Principal the BA Performance became a unique opportunity for young D/deaf talent not just within Scotland but also across the world including Romania and Australia to receive world class training.

In recognition of the success of the course, the BA Performance has been nominated for a "Diversity Award - Inspiring City Awards", "Times Education Award" and won the "Herald Higher Education, Widening Access in Education Award" in 2016.

There is likely to be more nominations and awards to be won in the future, however the true value of the course is the talents of the pupils many of whom can look forward to a full time career in the arts in years to come.
