We are excited to announce that Solar Bear’s film school, Solar Reels is back!
Solar Reels is an opportunity for 3 deaf people to learn about filmmaking.
Mentored by two deaf film and television professionals, you’ll gain hands-on experience in story development, production skills, filming, and editing.
This includes creating your own film!
When: 14th – 26th July 2025
Where: Glasgow
Who: Deaf people 18+
How much: Free
Do you love films? Want to learn more about filmmaking? Have you always wanted to make a short film or learn about the Film & TV industry?

How to apply
There are 2 ways to apply:
- Send us a video (in BSL or English), no more than 5 minutes.
OR
- In written English, no more than 2 pages.
Answer these questions:
- What is your name?
- Tell us about your favourite movie and why you like it?
- Why do you want to get involved in filmmaking?
- Tell us about any experience you have making films?

How to apply BSL video
Q: How do I send my application video?
A: You can upload to Vimeo, Youtube, Dropbox, Google Drive or We Transfer and send us the link.
Q: I am not confident uploading a video and need some help?
A: Please email felix@solarbear.org.uk and we will assist.
Q: What support is there for people that need to travel from outside Glasgow?
A: We encourage applications from people across Scotland. To support this, we have a small travel budget.
Q: Do I need BSL?
A: We welcome and support all communication styles.
Q: What support will be provided in the space?
A: We will have a full support and communication team.
