An exciting and original collaboration hits the stage next summer. Dundee Rep Theatre and Solar Bear, in collaboration with Aberdeen Performing Arts and the Traverse Theatre, present THE SINGER, written by Cora Bissett with Jamie Rea.
With songs by multi-award-winning KT Tunstall, featuring Deaf artist Jamie Rea and directed by Cora Bissett. THE SINGER previews at Dundee Rep Theatre in late July, premieres at the Traverse Theatre during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and plays the Citizens Theatre Studio in Glasgow and the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen before returning to Dundee in September.
‘We are excited by so many elements of this production. It’s thrilling to see a Deaf artist take centre stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on main stages across Scotland, with a story inspired by Jamie’s experience of music through signed song, performed alongside a hearing musician who’s down on his luck—an unlikely and turbulent collaboration. We’re also delighted to have such incredible partners involved, and to have KT Tunstall writing music for the show! Our fantastic creative team brings together both deaf and hearing practitioners. It’s going to be an exciting journey putting this play together and sharing it with audiences, both hearing and deaf. We can’t wait.’
