The post holder will lead Solar Bear’s Deaf Youth Theatre nurturing deaf talent and creating clear progression routes into professional training. As an emerging leader, the post holder will contribute to artistic direction, producing, arts management and community engagement.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Reporting to: Creative Director
Responsible for: Freelance artists, facilitators and volunteers working at Deaf Youth Theatre (DYT) or other projects that the post holder manages.
Hours: 2 days a week, normally worked between 10am–6pm, Monday–Friday, on set days to be agreed with post holder. The post holder will be expected to work some evenings and weekends (an informal TOIL system operates).
Salary: 2 days per week – £12,912 per annum (£32,280 full-time equivalent)
Period of contract: This is 2 year contract with the possibility of extending (funding dependent).
Location: We offer hybrid, flexible working conditions. You can work remotely and in the office in Glasgow. Travel to locations will be required.

Background
This role is part of Solar Bear’s wider commitment to developing deaf leadership in the Scottish arts sector. Since 2002, Solar Bear has supported deaf talent through its Deaf Youth Theatre and created pathways into professional training, including links with The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
In 2025, Solar Bear brought together deaf professionals for a Deaf Leadership Day to help shape a plan for growing deaf leaders in the arts. Solar Bear continues to support deaf artists, young people and communities through creative learning, theatre-making and professional development.

Training
Throughout your employment you will receive dedicated support in the role, including regular check ins with the Creative Director – an opportunity to discuss your progress, share ideas and creatively collaborate as part of an ambitious team. Deaf Youth Theatre
DYT is for deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing and CODAs aged 11-21 who are interested in being creative, building confidence, making friends and having fun! Please CLICK HERE to see recent projects.
