The young people explored summer stories – ice cream on the beach, woodland adventures, running away from midges…
Our creative team had the opportunity to write, direct, act and make short films. The week culminated with a sharing for invited guests including family and friends and games devised and led by the young people.
On day 1 we spent the morning getting to know each other and playing games. We then devised summer holiday inspired stories and explored how we can bring them to life in a performance. This gave the young people an opportunity to direct and act.

What happens when you ask a group of young people to create a film using toys, photography and a green screen?
3 incredible short films – A magical bee saves 2 people from bullies, Batman takes on AI for world domination and finally, a young wizard ends a war and creates peace.

We all remember summer games – running around in the sun, playing card games in the caravan when it’s raining, playing rounders, football, skipping and kerbie.
We challenged the young people to develop a new game for the group.

We spent the day devising and rehearsing 2 short performances in 2 groups, inspired by the prompt ‘summer’. This was an opportunity for the young people to roll up their sleeves and bring together all the skills they had learned throughout the week.

In front of an energetic audience, the young people showed their 3 films and performed 2 plays.
We then invited the audience to take part in a game devised by the young people.
It was a fantastic week, made possible with support from our funders, a lot of hard work, an amazing creative/support team, and of course our brilliant Deaf Youth Theatre.
