Solar Bear worked closely with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) to establish the BA Performance in British Sign Language and English in 2015.
This undergraduate degree programme is unique in the UK. It has been created for deaf students who want to perform on stage and are interested in creating their own work. This can be through BSL or English or a mixture of both.
Our partnership with RCS has also involved:
- Co-running Deaf Performance Skills and short course for deaf students.
- Co-producing Love and Information written by Caryl Churchill’s and The Assumption by Douglas Maxwell, featuring students from the BA Performance in BSL and English
- Guest tutoring on the BA Performance in BSL and English, and with production and design students
- Engagement with the Transitions programme
