The tour has now finished. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that took part especially the filmmakers: Tania Allan, Manjeet Cross, Rachel MacLeod, Andrew Pettigrew and George McGowan.
Developed over the last year, the films explore the topics of deaf folklore, deaf football, deaf activism and deaf identity.

‘Milkshakes & Disability: A Helpful Guide’ – Andrew Pettigrew
Milkshakes & Disability: A Helpful Guide is a personal, humorous reflection on disability and the misinformation surrounding the subject.
‘The Twins of Edzell’ – Tania Allan
A BSL interpretation of a Scottish folklore tale. Inspired by ‘Angus Folk Tales’ by Erin Farley. The Twins of Edzell is the story of a dedicated mother of deaf twin brothers and the hearing world that is unable to accept them.
‘Discovering Manjeet’ – Manjeet Cross
A biography on the life of Manjeet – shaped by the loss of her father, growing up deaf in a hearing world and a family history shrouded in mystery.
‘Glasgow Deaf Athletic Football Club’ – George McGowan
The story of Glasgow Deaf Athletic Football club told by the current manager, with a view back and to the future.
‘Falling on Deaf Ears’ – Rachael MacLeod
An insight into deaf rights and campaigning from three generations of deaf people.

Background
Launched in 2020 with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Solar Flares: Deaf Heritage project sought to address the large gaps in the preservation of deaf histories and find new and creative ways to share Scotland’s rich deaf heritage with the world. Over the last three years the project has commissioned and supported 8 new films by Deaf creatives, more than a dozen events and a deaf heritage web resource.
