A new play written by Xana Marwick and told in both BSL and English throughout.
It’s a story of Eilidh, Rowan and Jennifer. Three sisters and members of a touring family band The Fabulous Funstons in the 1980’s. Brought up and trained for the stage, by their well intentioned workaholic grandfather, the sisters secretly form their own punk band. But tensions boil over and both bands are ended when Rowan tragically dies. Over 30 years later, the past comes back to haunt Eilidh. In the style of TV’s “Inside Number 9” , it’s a tale with a twist – creepy, mysterious and funny.

Development
Show/HideThis play started life as an intergenerational project that Solar Bear ran, with St Roch’s Secondary School and Roystonhill Community Hub. From here Xana Mawick developed the script.
At Solar Bear we’re always experimenting, trying new, playful ways to make our work more inclusive and accessible. ‘The Third Sister’ is a storytelling play, told from the point of view of two characters, two sisters. One of the sisters speaks in English; the other signs in BSL. Each sister translates for the other. As well as this distinctive approach, we want to take our play to non-traditional venues – community centres, schools, deaf clubs – and play to small, intimate audiences; stopping afterwards for a conversation. We’re offering this as a free experience – a chance to connect with others and see something unusual and different, in your community. And with a live electric guitar, we hope it strikes a chord!
