Deaf Youth Theatre Open Day 2024 at Impact Arts: A Celebration of Creativity and Collaboration
We were thrilled to host the Deaf Youth Theatre Open Day 2024 at Impact Arts, where over 20 enthusiastic students from four different schools came together for a day of creativity, learning, and fun! This event was an exciting opportunity for Solar Bear to showcase the incredible activities that take place at Deaf Youth Theatre, a space where young deaf people explore the arts and develop new skills.
A Day of Dynamic Workshops
Throughout the day, the young participants took part in three engaging workshops, each offering a unique way to express themselves and grow their confidence:
- Storytelling with Amy: In this workshop, students delved into the theme of climate change, developing powerful stories through theatre techniques.
- Imaginative play with Craig: This session was full of laughter and creativity as the group participated in imaginative games designed to help them build and embody characters. It was a fun and dynamic way to tap into their inner storytellers.
- Filmmaking with Klarissa and Will: Here, the young people stepped into the world of filmmaking, working together to write, shoot, and edit a short movie. This hands-on experience introduced them to the basics of storytelling on screen, adding another dimension to their creative toolkit.
A Place for Learning, Growth, and Fun
Deaf Youth Theatre meets every Tuesday during term time, providing a supportive and inclusive environment where young people can come together to explore the performing arts. The program includes opportunities to participate in exciting projects such as a Summer Project, winter sharing events, and trips to festivals and shows.
This Open Day was a wonderful reminder of the talent and potential of Scotland’s young creative deaf community. We were inspired by their energy and imagination, and we are excited to see where their creative journeys will take them. At Solar Bear, we are committed to supporting these young people every step of the way, and we can’t wait to see many of them lead the future of Scotland’s creative industries.
